We also have a full America’s Got Talent playlist that you’re going to want to keep track of for the sake of all of our updates this season.
America’s Got Talent season 14 – Let’s begin with Simon Cowell’s big reality TV circus, which is coming back on Tuesday, May 28 — which is awesome, mostly because it’s so early and that means that we’re going to get a lot of episodes all summer long. It makes sense for NBC to milk every single thing they can out of one of their highest-rated shows, especially off of the success of America’s Got Talent: The Champions. It’s also nice to get back to the standard format, where eventually all of America (rather than some mysterious group of superfans) is going to be responsible for some of the voting. This is the format we love and hopefully the strangeness with Champions didn’t turn anyone off.
In terms of the on-screen personalities, this is one of the biggest overhauls we’ve ever seen. Gone are Heidi Klum and Mel B, and in their place are Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough. We don’t know what their preferences are going to be, and that does add a little bit of mystery to the auditions! (Personally, we didn’t think anything was really wrong with Heidi or Mel, even if Heidi was an especially harsh critic on comedians.) They’ll get a chance to hit the Golden Buzzer for the first time before long; they may have already done it, given that the show is currently in production.
American Ninja Warrior – Meanwhile, be prepared for a special premiere of the iconic competition show on Wednesday, May 29 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern — proving further that NBC doesn’t want to waste that final week of May, a time when programming is typically dead across the board. New competitors will emerge on the path to glory, and after this special premiere, the series will shift to its normal timeslot of Mondays at 8:00 p.m. Eastern starting on June 10. (That’s right — we’re going to see the show airing up against The Bachelorette again.)
This season hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila are going to be joined by sideline reporter Zuri Hall, who will get a greater perspective on the competition on a ground level.
