The Good Doctor season 2 episode 17 preview: Shaun’s big chance

The Good Doctor season 2 episode 17 is coming onto ABC next week — and you gotta believe that the stakes are high for Shaun. They’re hard not to given that his career is in a tough spot still. He wants what he wants, and that is a spot on the surgical team. Unfortunately, he also just so happens to have a big-time obstacle in his way — Dr. Jackson Han! Daniel Dae Kim’s character will continue to be a major part of the show coming up, which means more clashes with Shaun and chances for heartbreak and/or frustration. Be prepared for this episode to send you up and down a rollercoaster of emotions. We just hope that it lands with us still in one place.

Before we dive any further here, it does make a certain degree of sense to share The Good Doctor season 2 episode 17 synopsis:

Dr. Shaun Murphy is desperate to join the team on a dangerous procedure involving a patient’s tumor removal. However, having been removed from the surgery team by Dr. Jackson Han (guest star Daniel Dae Kim), Shaun must use his talents to help figure out the cause of an infant’s injuries.

Now, let’s touch on the gigantic elephant in the room: Whether or not we’re actually going to have a chance to see Dr. Han ever cater to some of what Shaun wants here. What’s his incentive to do so? One of the things that we’ve certainly seen from this guy over time is that he is super set in his ways and doesn’t really do a whole lot to cater to other people. He mostly just does what he thinks is best and everyone else has to deal with the consequences. Shaun may be great at pathology, but if he’d wanted that particular career path, it is precisely what he would have chosen in the first place.

Here’s the good news

It may be because of Dr. Melendez that Shaun’s second chance at a good impression surfaces. Next week, you’re going to see on The Good Doctor a patient could specifically require Shaun’s skill set. This is where no one other than him can step in and do the job. There is no guarantee that he will succeed in his task; as a matter of fact, it’s almost make-it-or-break-it! One misstep in this second chance, and there almost certainly will not be a third. Shaun needs to take a deep breath, buckle up, and prepare for whatever lies around the corner for him.

The one thing that actually has us shaking in our boots a little bit here is the title: “Breakdown.” How often does hearing that word actually inspire confidence? Think not much at all. The promo suggests high highs, and the title brings the complete opposite to mind.
