One particular debate between Mike and Kristen is at the forefront of “Urban Exploring,” which is the title for Last Man Standing season 7 episode 16 airing on Fox next week. It’s all about Boyd, how to parent him, and how to treat him on the other side of him having his Boy Meets World sort of adventure (if you missed our interview with Jet Jurgensmeyer be sure check that out!). He wants to take on the world! He wants to do things that he believes “every teenager” is doing! Yet, the complication here is that Boyd’s not every teenager. He’s Boyd. He’s got his own view on what taking on the world means. Mike and Kristen aren’t the only people with a say in this, but they’ve got a lot of mental muscle to flex.
Obviously, if you love parenting-based stories on Last Man Standing, you’ll find a lot of this fun and/or relatable. (Are you even watching this show if you don’t like stories about parents and kids? Just a thought.) There is another storyline within “Urban Exploring” worth examining, as well; the season 7 episode 16 synopsis makes that clear:
As Boyd’s sense of adventure grows, Mike and Kristen have different opinions on how much space they should give him. When Mandy and Kyle move into their apartment, they find Ryan isn’t a “fun” landlord in the all-new “Urban Exploring” episode of LAST MAN STANDING airing Friday, March 1 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (LMS-716) (TV-14 L)
Here are two words that you don’t really ever hear combined: “Fun” and “landlord.” Who gets along with their landlord? Seriously. Landlords are, a good 95% of the time, the worst. They take your money, give everyone grief and take forever when dealing with people throwing lounge chairs in the pool (possibly a personal story of ours). It doesn’t matter if it’s Ryan, some character we’re meeting for the first time, or even Mike himself. That doesn’t change … and it’s probably not going to change that Mandy and Kyle will find their way to get mixed up in some shenanigans. “Sitcom” and “shenanigans’ tend to go together so much better than “fun” and “landlord” ever could.
What’s coming beyond this episode?
Think in terms of some unexpected drama at a card game. It’s going to be funny, but maybe not for all of the characters taking part. Read more over here.
