This Is Us season 3 episode 13 video: Beth’s history with dance

When you think back to some of the flash-forwards that we’ve see, it’s clear that the Beth character is immersed in something related to dance. Yet, it’s not something that we’ve gotten a chance to see all that much of in the present. Instead, she’s been more immersed in a traditional job, and trying to find a way to be the best wife, mother, and person she can be. Yet, through this episode you’re going to see that ballet was a huge part of most of her childhood … or at least it was until her mother (played by the incredible Phylicia Rashad) decided that she’d gotten as far as she could possibly go. That’s when apparently, she pulled the plug.
Could this episode be the one in which Beth decides that she wants to get it all back? Based on some of the early indications that we’ve got on that subject, we could be getting a chance to see this play out. Beth may come to a realization in spending time with her mother that this is what she wants to do with the remainder of her career, and that is precisely what she’s going to push for as a result. She’s going to get a chance to really dive in and explore this part of herself and understand why this means so much to her in the present. We think Beth going into this career now will come with challenges, given that it is expensive to get a new business-of-sorts off the ground. Yet, if Randall could make his political dream come true, she could do the same here.
By the end of this episode, we’re probably going to care for Beth so much more than we did before; the Toby episode from earlier this season was absolutely wonderful to watch, and we can only hope that this one checks off some of the same boxes. (Originally, there was talk about a possible Miguel episode, but that doesn’t seem to be happening.)
