Breaking: NBC’s ‘Revolution,’ ‘Go On,’ and ‘The New Normal’ earn full seasons

Just as we are awaiting the news that “The Mob Doctor” will likely be the first series of the new year to be canceled, we now know officially the first three shows to be handed full seasons after starting strong; and unsurprisingly, all three of them air on the surprising new #1 of the season so far in NBC.

So what are the three shows? Let’s take an in-depth look:

“Revolution” – The high-concept drama from J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke got off to the strongest start for any new program airing at a regular time since “Once Upon a Time” last year, and given the competition, it has held on rather well. The last new episode drew a solid 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and it also is one of the most-DVRed shows on TV to go along with it based on the early figures.

Do we still think there are quality issues here? Yes, but there is also serious potential.

“Go On” – Despite having a timeslot now inundated with other comedy series, Matthew Perry has at least held on pretty well after debuting to some mighty ratings during the Olympics. Last week’s new episode drew a 2.7, which tied the premiere of “New Girl” over on Fox. “Go On” is currently the network’s highest-rated comedy series overall, let alone one that is celebrating its first year on the air.

“The New Normal” – Based on ratings alone, the Ryan Murphy series’ pickup comes as a little more of a surprise. However, you also have to remember that this show has generated decent buzz to go along with DVR ratings, and has done a great job at retaining viewers week to week even more so than the two series mentioned above.
