Call the Midwife season 8 episode 5 preview: Lucille’s new romance!
Below, CarterMatt has the official Call the Midwife season 8 episode 5 synopsis with some more information when it comes to what lies ahead:
Poplar welcomes a brand new cervical cancer-screening clinic to the Institute and Dr. Turner (Stephen McGann), Shelagh (Laura Main) and Trixie (Helen George) are pleased to be part of the exciting new venture.
One of their first patients is a young woman who is due to be married, but has never had a period. She has to be referred to St Cuthbert’s where she receives a diagnosis of a rare condition known then as Testicular Feminisation Syndrome. Trixie does her utmost to be supportive but the truth of the condition has larger repercussions than anyone could ever have imagined.
The prospect of a new romance for Lucille (Leonie Elliott) brightens the mood at Nonnatus House and the husband of an expectant mother suffers with some inexplicable pains, similar to his wife’s pregnancy symptoms.
Sister Frances (Ella Bruccoleri) faces her very real fear of public speaking when she is tasked with running her first Mothercraft session.
We want to be hopeful here for Lucille first and foremost, largely due to the fact that within the world of Poplar, romance isn’t something that always works out all that well. Just think in terms of the heartache that Trixie’s suffered in the past — even when some characters do find love, meanwhile, terrible things somehow do still happen on the other side of it. A great example here is what happened with Barbara and Tom at the end of this past season. We would like to see someone join Fred/Violet and Dr. Turner/Shelagh eventually as characters in successful relationships, so we’ll continue to cheer more for Lucille with that in mind. It’s enough to at least offset some of the sadder storylines going on.
Also, we will continue to cheer for Sister Frances! This will probably be a fairly-relatable story to many people out there, as public speaking is not exactly the easiest thing for many to tackle.
