Gotham season 5 episode 5 video: Is Jeremiah really gone?
As we get into Gotham season 5 episode 5 airing on Fox this Thursday, change seems to be a central theme. Is the city really about to be different than it has been? Are some of the big, emotional wounds actually going to heal?
Given what we know about this show, and also what we know about Batman overall, we’re not altogether confident in that. The promo below doesn’t exactly inspire any confidence.
In this new preview, you see what amounts to, first and foremost, a celebration over the “death” of Jeremiah … but the problem is that we know this guy isn’t totally going. There’s been footage of Cameron Monaghan out there in the teasers beyond what we’ve seen so unless the show is really trying to trick us all with footage that isn’t real, we have to believe that something more is coming. Also, it feels pretty clear at the moment that any Cameron Monaghan character on this show is going to have nine lives; right when you think that they are gone, they find a way to magically come back and stir up some other chaos. It’s something that we’ve seen so many times now that you have to think the tradition is going to continue.
So, beyond just Jeremiah, there are other things to prepare for Thursday. It begins, of course, with the arrival of Eduardo Dorrance — a man who eventually will be known as Bane. He is one of the most noteworthy new villains this season and we know that he’s capable of causing all sorts of destruction. With him, it’s mostly a matter of how he will evolve over time since we don’t necessarily think that his character evolution is going to be immediate. He probably won’t put the mask on within the first few minutes of his arrival … but the writers also cannot spend forever on this, because they only have twelve episodes and we are already almost at the halfway point already.
Meanwhile, get ready for an epic Penguin/Riddler, confrontation, one that is in some ways several seasons in the making. It is so fascinating watching where these characters have gone that has brought them to this particular point. It’s been a crazy journey, but certainly, a satisfying one to go along with it. We’ve seen different dimensions and betrayals that make it easier to understand why the villains on this show never end up on the same page.
