The Crown season 4 spoilers: Gillian Anderson playing Margaret Thatcher
According to Deadline, former The X-Files star Gillian Anderson is going to be appearing in the upcoming season in the role of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. This casting seems to confirm that the fourth season is going to be taking place in at least the late seventies, though it could progress forward a little bit further than that.
As exciting as this casting news is at the moment, we also do need to be cognizant of the fact that you’re not going to be seeing Anderson on the series for some time still. The Crown season 3, starring Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth and then also Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, is set to premiere a little bit later this year. Season 4 will likely premiere at some point in 2020, at least based on the current timeline of how production for the show works. Thatcher is of course one of the most famous Prime Ministers in the history of the country, and we imagine that the relationship between her and the Royal Family is going to be an easy one.
This casting news certainly continues an incredibly-busy run for Anderson, who recently appeared on a different Netflix show in Sex Education. The streaming service has shared some viewership data suggesting that this is a rather enormous success for them, and there may still be a future for Sex Education. We’re not going to say that one of these show’s existence completely negates the other, as there is a way in which to envision that both could be coming at some point in the future.
Odds are, you know Anderson best from The X-Files, but she has also appeared on both Hannibal and American Gods. We also highly recommend checking out The Fall if you want another wonderful TV performance from her. Does anyone out there have a better television run over the past decade or so? It’s really easy to make a case for her, as she’s had an opportunity to do a wide array of spectacular stuff.
Now, we just have to hope that there is some sort of full season 3 trailer for The Crown sooner rather than later. It’s been a very-long wait already and we know that when it arrives, there’s going to be a number of great things to say about the performances and the show’s overall visual quality.
