Celebrity Big Brother 2 spotlight: Early Ricky Williams expectations

The entire Celebrity Big Brother 2 cast is now official, and with that we’re spending this week previewing what to expect from many of them! Consider this article series your guide to understanding what each person brings to the table and also whether or not they have a legitimate chance of winning. In this piece, the focus is on Ricky Williams, a notable athlete — and also a person the producers likely wanted on the show for a multitude of reasons.

Claim to Fame – Williams is one of the most-notable running backs from the past few decades in the NFL — he rushed for more than 10,000 yards in his career, which started in New Orleans and continued in Miami. There were bumps in the road including a temporary retirement and also a suspension. He also famously told Bill Simmons after his career was over that he’d probably be in the Hall of Fame if marijuana was legal during his playing career. (The fact that Williams lives in Venice Beach is probably the least surprising news of all time.)

Strengths – Williams is a competitive guy — you don’t be an NFL player otherwise. He competed hard for many years, and we do think that the headlines surrounding some other stuff causes people to forget about his drive. He’ll push himself in the house, and we think that he’s the sort of person other players are going to want to work with. There’s no reason for anyone to try and shy away from some sort of alliance with him.

Weaknesses – Has Ricky Williams really prepared himself for this sort of game? We’re not sure. We do think that his reputation for being a little aloof may come back to hurt him, as could the fact that he will be viewed as a threat for some of his physical prowess. He’s not someone who we think is going to come in and try to lie and scheme or do whatever it takes — he has some upside, but it may take some time for him to get there.

Outlook This Season – Ricky’s going to have a hard time getting to the end of the game, and the thing we’re currently expecting more than anything is for him to be a little less interesting than casting probably hoped in advance. Athletes aren’t often super-compelling outside of their field of play, and we didn’t see much from Williams during his time on The Celebrity Apprentice that makes us think he’ll be super-successful in this venue.
