The Big Bang Theory season 12 episode 12 preview: Zack is back!

Following tonight’s winter premiere, The Big Bang Theory season 12 episode 12 is going to offer up some nostalgia. We know that there are a lot of people who remember Zack fondly — he was the best of Penny’s exes before Leonard and while we didn’t necessarily root for him to end up with her, he did bring a lot of comedy when he was around. Also, he did have an interesting bond-of-sorts with some of the guys.

As for how Zack is returning, that’s something that could prove to be rather fascinating — and important to the future of Leonard and Penny. It’s a way to have their past meet both their present and future at a time where the two of them really should be having these conversations.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official The Big Bang Theory season 12 episode 12 synopsis with some more information on what’s coming:

“The Propagation Proposition” – Penny’s ex-boyfriend, Zack (Brian Thomas Smith), and his wife want a baby, but when Zack is infertile, they ask Leonard for help. Also, Koothrappali attempts to mend things with his ex-fiancée, Anu (Rait Gupta), on THE BIG BANG THEORY, Thursday, Jan. 10 (8:00-8:31 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

This feels like the sort of episode that could feature Leonard and Penny thinking about their own future. Knowing what we know about Leonard, it feels like he would do something reckless and say yes to Zack before really spending the time to actually process what it means. Then, he could have a few more second thoughts — or at least think more about having a family with Penny. While it doesn’t seem as though the show is interested in making Leonard and Penny parents on the show itself, this absolutely could be something that happens for these characters down the road. (With that being said, we don’t want to think that the two having kids would necessarily define their happiness one way or another.)

Here’s one other reminder that could make people a little teary-eyed — at the end of this episode, we’ll be at the halfway point of the final season. There will only be a dozen more episodes and chances to dive into this crazy world again.
