The Son season 2 premiere date will be at some point in April 2019

When is The Son season 2 going to premiere on AMC? We’ve been asked this question on a number of occasions over the past several months, and for good reason. This show has been MIA for a really long period of time — it last aired in the spring of 2017 — but we’re finally getting a good sense now as to when it will be back.

According to the show’s official Facebook page, the second season of the Pierce Brosnan – Western-themed series is going to be coming out at some point in April 2019. That means, basically, that it is premiering two years after the first batch of episodes came on the air. That’s a really long time to wait for some new episodes, and we mostly just hope that there are some viewers out there who still want to see the series by then.

Obviously, there is a pretty enormous risk that is being taken with the long layoff here. Mostly, the fear is that the majority of viewers who saw the show the first go-around and have now moved on to a wide array of other things … and we’d certainly understand that. There are so many shows out there now that there’s no real need for any viewer to have a particular amount of reliance on one series more so than any other.

Yet, simultaneously we do think that there is a pretty good case to be made as to why you should tune back into the show. There are some good performances across the board and in some ways, this show at least continues the tradition of Western programming at AMC. We still miss Hell on Wheels, but we are excited about the fact that this show is still out there … but we certainly do wish that there was a smaller gap between seasons.

When could AMC release more information about The Son season 2?

Think along the lines of February or so. We don’t think that there is any reason for them to rush out a little of additional information about what’s coming, but we also certainly do think that it benefits the network to make it rather clear when it’s coming back at a point in which viewers can prepare … and maybe even re-watch the first season so that they can actually remember what happened the first time around.
