Ray Donovan season 6 episode 9: Did Ray finally come clean?
For starters, the closing minutes suggested that his life may very well be on the line because of some Staten Island cops. His role in the IA investigation is ruffling feathers and potentially ruining lives. When you consider all of that, can you really be altogether shocked that there would be some blowback that comes his way? Ray is the sort of guy who doesn’t exactly have a lot of friends and because of that, he’s not going to have much of a support system in order to help him.
Even if Ray does make it through the perilous situation that he’s in at the conclusion of this episode, there are some other things still worth considering. He’s going to be out in a dangerous city where a lot of people want something to happen to him. Beyond just that, the preview for what’s coming up next suggests that his own daughter Bridget is also in an especially-vulnerable place where something horrible could happen to her.
Ray Donovan tonight told a story that was especially important to the character of Ray’s daughter. After he was put on a psychiatric hold for 72 hours, she was really the only person Ray could call. With that, he used her in order to put in word to Mac to try to get himself released. Yet, he did everything within his power to keep most of the pertinent information separate from her for as long as he could. That changed as the episode went along, though. Bridget’s not an idiot; she is curious about what is going on with her father, and that may be especially important when you consider the fact that she doesn’t have too many other people left that she can count on. She needs him, and while he may not want to admit it, he also needs her. These two are critical to one another and their ability to move forward.
In the end, Bridget does not know about what happened to Ray at the start of the season and some of what he’s going through. Because of all of this, she doesn’t want to be far away from him … even if that may be the best thing for her.

CarterMatt Verdict
We’ll be the first to admit that we’re not super-crazy about what’s going on with Terry this season, and while the Mickey storyline had its merits earlier this season, it’s starting to really drift into some weird territory. From this vantage point Ray Donovan is best when the focus is on the title character and some of the weighty, emotional stuff that he is dealing with. Luckily, there was a lot of that in this episode and by and large, we do think that it was successful on most fronts.
