Suits season 9 renewal hopes: Should we expect news soon?

The first thing that we should note here is that it’s not 100% surprising that there is no renewal news as of yet. As a matter of fact, we’d argue that this is largely par for the course. Suits was not renewed formally for a season 8 until earlier this year, close to the end of January. That announcement was notable mostly because it cemented the departure of Patrick J. Adams. (Of course, at that point it was clear that Meghan Markle would not be back as Rachel.)
Suits, as a whole, has been one of the most-pleasant surprises of 2018. We were worried that the show would suffer mightily without Mike and Rachel and while it wasn’t quite the same, that was more than fine. It proved to be different in a good way as the writers almost went back in time with stories that felt like the early seasons of the show. Alex Williams, Samantha Wheeler, and Katrina Bennett all proved to be worthy additions, and while the ratings for season 8 may be down, the same could be said for the majority of broadcast and cable TV.
Is a renewal likely coming?
While nothing is cemented as of yet, we are reasonably confident that you’ll get a chance to see it. There haven’t been any public discussions about season 8 being the final season and given where things are behind the scenes, we likely would’ve heard about that by now.
Our hope is that Suits gets at least a season 9, and if that happens, fingers crossed that the team makes a decision about its long-term future there at a time in which they can plan for an ending. No matter when Suits ends, this is a series that has been nothing short of iconic for USA. It deserves a celebration and a send-off that is right up there with some of the network’s greatest hits like Psych and Monk.
Hopefully, USA will come to us with some sort of news one way or another early on in the new year.
