The Last Kingdom season 4 renewal official at Netflix
In a new post on Twitter, the show’s official account confirmed that there will be a fourth season of the Netflix drama. This is obviously tremendous news, but perhaps even more so when you consider that we’re not exactly in an era of Netflix where said renewals are altogether guaranteed. We’ve seen many a show go by the wayside already and it’s certainly possible more will be coming in 2019. We’re just glad that one of them is not the period drama.
The Last Kingdom season 3 arrived on Netflix with some fascinating expectations, given that this was the first time that the series was a worldwide exclusive at the streaming service. It was hard to gauge as to how well it would do, given that the bulk of its popularity stems from Europe and we are watching/covering the series over in the United States. We do still wish that the show had an even larger viewership stateside than it does, but hopefully, another renewal will mean more opportunities for viewers to discover it. One thing that we certainly do know at the moment is that we’re coming off of what may very well be the strongest overall season of The Last Kingdom to date, one that had a number of interesting twists, some epic battles, and a visual style that was stunning and appropriate for the time.
As for when a season 4 for The Last Kingdom could premiere, we’d love for it to be in 2019 — though we’d also understand if there were not episodes ready in time. This is a series that has to be ready all at once for Netflix to air them, and given the specific nature of this show with some of the battles, it is not the sort of program that you can shoot in an incredibly-short period of time. It takes a certain degree of effort and patience in order to properly pull it off.
Rest assured, though, that we will have some more news regarding The Last Kingdom season 4 the moment that said news is available. It likely will not be until production really kicks off, but doesn’t this give us something to look forward to?
