Unfortunately, the bad news at the moment is this: The Tim Allen series is done for 2018. Now that we’ve said that, we cannot exactly say that this is a surprise! There is no real reason for Last Man Standing to continue for the rest of the year, mostly because of the fact that we’ve already gotten a Christmas episode; beyond just that, there have been nine episodes that have already aired for season 7, and that’s a good chunk of the 22 episodes that were ordered. Don’t you want to save some stories for May?
As for what’s coming up when the series does return to the air, it’s going to begin in early January with “Three for the Road.” What makes this particular episode so interesting, beyond the fact that we’re going to see Mike Baxter embark on a rather-unusual road trip with Ryan and Boyd, is that it was actually originally supposed to air this fall. Yet, sometimes episodes get swapped around for a wide array of reasons and that’s precisely what happened here. There may be no real rhyme or reason for it beyond just Fox deciding that early January was a better time in order to air this particular story.
Meanwhile, beyond this episode you’re going to have an episode entitled “Common Ground,” and it is one that will allow for the character of Jen to have a rather-notable story. Jen is the foreign exchange student who is going to breathe some new life into the Baxter household moving forward, but also create some new challenges. She has a different perspective from another part of the world and there could be some culture clashes that come along with her arrival. Of course, culture clashes are not necessarily a bad thing by any means — sometimes, it is rather nice to have a fresh perspective and someone bringing you some different insight. She could learn from the Baxters, but in turn the Baxter family could learn some valuable things from her.
Of course, there are many episodes coming up beyond these two, and we’ll have a little bit more scoop on that down the road once more details are available.
