If you look below (via TVLine), you can see Sarah Raffery’s character alongside Grimm alum Sasha Roiz, who is going to be playing a potential new love interest by the name of Thomas Kessler. What we know about him at present is very simple: He is the head of a high-end furniture design company and somebody who is very much familiar to everyone at the newly-named Zane Specter Litt Wheeler Williams. He’s been a client for many years, but at this particular juncture he and Donna form a connection as she steps in to help on a case.
What does this potential relationship mean for Donna? Well, it is an opportunity for her to be happy, but it could also bring about a very specific emotional reaction for Harvey. He may be working on some level through his feelings for her and all of this could rise to the surface in the final six episodes of season 8 after being very much buried in the first part of the season. In looking back on that, it felt like a lot of the priority for those episodes was establishing the new series regulars further and reshaping the landscape of the firm. Now, it feels time to get into the relationship nitty-gritty. There have been plenty of people interested in exploring Harvey / Donna as a couple for some time — while it may seem like this new relationship impedes that, but when the dust settles it could be the best thing for them.
Granted, we don’t want to be too confident that Kessler is going to be the thing that forces Harvey to recognize some of the feelings that he has for Donna. After all, this is far from the first time that he has been in this sort of position. Donna has had love interests before and he could’ve brought these emotions to the forefront. Maybe it is all just a matter of timing.
