MIA Shows: Is Fargo season 4 still coming down the pipeline?

What’s the status of Fargo season 4? In this edition of our ongoing MIA Shows article series, we want to take a look at a series that is very much in depend … but also one that there hasn’t been a whole lot of news on in some time.

At this point, it’s been over a year and a half since the third season of the anthology show premiered on FX, and it’s also understandable why patience may be starting to wear thin. Fargo is a critically-acclaimed series that often mixes outstanding performances with sharp writing, brutal drama, and the occasional bit of northern / midwestern humor. It’s a unique show — even if it is based on a movie — and it’s one that will likely last however long creator Noah Hawley wants it to.

For now, the best thing that we can tell you is that there is still going to be a fourth season coming — not only that, but it should premiere at some point in 2019. Fargo will not be MIA for too much longer! Earlier this year, the news was first announced (and it was certainly surprising) that comic legend Chris Rock was going to be playing a big part on the upcoming fourth season — which is going to be set within the past. It’s always somewhat-divisive when you end up seeing a typically-comedic actor play a fairly dramatic role, but Rock is one of those few people who can consistently pull that off with the right script. We have a lot of faith in Fargo just because they’ve done a lot of innovative casting so far and really made a lot of it work. This may not be an exception to the rule at all.

As for when the new season will premiere in the new year, don’t expect it anytime soon. This is a winter show and with that, Fargo likes to film in winter months. We’d be surprised if it premieres in the first half of 2019, but at the moment beggars really can’t be choosers when it comes to getting it back. We’ll take it back on the air whenever it does end up coming back, even if that does mean that we have to wait for a while in order to see it.

While we don’t expect too much news for the remainder of this year, don’t be shocked if come early 2019, a whole flurry of casting news starts to trickle in given that at that point, it’s really going to feel like the right time to start having a little bit more in the way of insight.
