The X Factor winner Dalton Harris charts at #4 with ‘The Power of Love’

Per the latest official chart numbers, Dalton’s version of “The Power of Love” featuring James Arthur has landed at #4 on the charts this week — behind Ariana Grande’s new single “Thank U, Next,” the song “Sweet But Psycho,” and Halsey’s “Without Me.” While the chart debut is lower than how Rak-Su fared in their debut on the charts last week, this isn’t something to be concerned about right now. It’s mostly just about staying power and finding a way to keep people talking about you for longer than a week after the finale. If Dalton can continue to keep sales coming in and keep a reasonably-high profile, this could propel him for a while.
In a monetary sense, winner’s singles from The X Factor are not something that really hits the pocketbook of anyone given that the proceeds are for charity. This is more about relevance and also telling the record company what the overall interest in an artist is. We certainly do think that there is global interest in Dalton and that he’s got a good chance to become a star all over the UK and beyond, but it’s going to take work from all parties. He’ll need a great team around him, good material for him to record, and also commitment that lasts beyond a month or two. We also still think that there’s no point in rushing an album if it’s not as strong as it could be. Patience has worked out for some non-winners in the past, with one great example of that being Ella Henderson.
It’s actually been many years at this point since an X Factor winner has managed to hit #1 with a single right out the gate — think back to when Ben Haenow took the title. Unfortunately for Ben, he hasn’t quite had much staying power since. It’s been a rather-long time in general since a winner of this show had a larger impact beyond the UK; Little Mix is probably the most successful alum in a post-One Direction world, but James Arthur at least had some success in the United States with “Say You Won’t Let Go.”
