Is The Resident new tonight on Fox? What could lie ahead

While we certainly did see the series have a great run this fall, that run is officially over — at least for the time being. There is no installment airing tonight and, to go along with that, there is not going to be a new episode until the new year. Even though The Resident does have a rather-healthy episode order of 22, that does not mean that you are getting new installments every week from now until May. There’s just not enough time for that, at the end of the day, and something has to give a little bit.
When the series does come back onto Fox in the new year, it’s going to feel rather clear what sort of stories need to be told — starting, of course, with learning whether or not Julian and Conrad’s father Marshall are both still alive. These characters were left in jeopardy in the closing minutes of the fall finale, albeit for entirely different reasons. We’re a little bit more confident that Marshall will pull through than Julian, who could take a lot of important information on Quovadis to her grave. She is the only person who really understands the fulls cope of their corruption and some of the terrible stuff that they consistently have done over time.
Beyond the life-or-death situations, there are of course plenty of other stories that The Resident can explore moving forward, whether you are talking here about what’s going on with Conrad and Nic’s relationship or what Devon does to recover from what he chose to do at the wedding. This is a show where a number of its characters have already made tricky, complicated decisions, and it’s certainly possible that a number of them could have ramifications that are particularly hard to lay out at this point in time.
Luckily, there is plenty of time still to tell all of these stories, given that we are still fairly early on in the season. That basically means that there is so much more time to explore all of this in between the show’s winter arc and whatever they opt to do in the spring. We’ll have more on that down the line.
