Arrow star Stephen Amell hints at Smallville reference during Elseworlds

Elseworlds

While we have seen the Arrowverse pay homage to all sorts of things in the superhero world, Smallville is not a show that they’ve really addressed in a literal sense. The closest that they’ve come to it is giving you some actors, including Laura Vandervoort and also Erica Durance, who were a part of the original series.

Yet, it does seem as though the upcoming Elseworlds crossover event is going to resolve at least some of that, at least in that it’s going to provide you potentially one reference that longtime fans will enjoy. During a recent Facebook Live session, Arrow star Stephen Amell made it clear (via ComicBook.com) precisely what he was talking about here:

“It is not a Smallville reunion, although I think it becomes pretty clear in the promos for the crossover that there are Smallville elements, at least, in terms of location … And if you’re a fan of Smallville, and I have no idea if they’re going to keep this in the final cut, but there’s a treat in there, I swear. Full disclosure, I’ve never seen an episode of Smallville before, sorry! I wasn’t that into comic book TV shows when I grew up. I’ve since seen a couple, for very obvious reasons. But as someone who wasn’t a diehard fan of Smallville, this moment made me jump out of my seat. If you’re a fan of Smallville, you may want to put down rubber sheets or something like that. Because, quite frankly, you might [pee] your pants.”

Our take on Amell’s comments are simple: So long as you enjoy Smallville on some level, there’s a reasonably good chance that you’re going to love what Arrow is going to be throwing down in the crossover. In general, we think that there is potential for all sorts of super-exciting stuff. This is, after all, an opportunity to see the show just play around in a big sandbox and reference all sorts of fun stuff. That’s one of the reasons why the 1990’s version of The Flash is going to have such a big presence in the crossover, as we’ll be seeing John Wesley Shipp come back as some version of his old character. This effectively an opportunity to see all of these shows play around a little bit with stuff and honor the fun legacy of superheroes on TV.

To think, all of this started with a tortured former rich kid in Oliver Queen starting off on an island. Who would’ve thought at that point that this is where we would end up?
