Vikings season 5 episode 11 ratings solid in History return
Wednesday night’s new episode, which featured the much-anticipated return of Clive Standen as Rollo to the series, ended up drawing a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. To go along with that, it also posted 1.94 million total viewers. While these are declines of slightly more than 10% versus the most-recent episode (which was much earlier this year), it’s kind of expect to see drops after this long of a break. In general, though, getting almost two million live viewers for a cable series in 2018 is absolutely worth being excited about. It’s a really great signal that there is still a super-enthusiastic audience for this show, which also generates good DVR ratings and has a big audience more or less all over the world.
So how much do these ratings really even matter? At the end of the day, that is worth some debate given that the series already has a sixth season that will be coming down the line. Beyond that, though, it is certainly possible that season 6 could be the last. There is no official word out there on a season 7 or what the future could hold for this franchise as a whole, so for the time being we’re just left to sit around and wonder precisely what is going to happen down the line.
If you do really love Vikings, our advice at the moment is simply this: Enjoy the show while it’s here, since there is absolutely no guarantee that you are going to be able to actually enjoy it on the other side of season 6. We just want the ratings to stay steady for the time being just for the sake of allowing Vikings to have further validation as one of TV’s best shows. We do think it’s worth some recognition that it can go off the air for such an extended period of time and yet also still continue to draw great numbers. There are a number of other shows out there that simply are not pulling that off. We’ve seen that basically more times than we can possibly count.
Vikings will more than likely continue to air episodes throughout the holiday season. That is one of the benefits, after all, to the show not airing directly on Christmas night. It allows History to continue to take advantage of what may be a small hole in the TV scheduling market elsewhere.
