The Last Kingdom season 4 renewal: Will it happen over at Netflix?
Let’s kick things off here with the following reminder that as of right now, Netflix has not confirmed things one way or another in regards to The Last Kingdom season 4. While it would be wonderful to know that the series is coming back for more, that is not by any means confirmed as of yet. To go along with that, this isn’t something that we personally believe will be confirmed for quite some time one way or another.
One of the things that we’ve come to see with most Netflix shows over time is that there is a two-to-three-month window in which the streaming service decides the fate of some of their series, and such is probably going to be the case here, as well. With The Last Kingdom, the #1 thing that the series has going for it at the moment is merely that it has a nice following all over the world. While it may not be the most-popular series that it has in the United States by any means, it’s got a great following in the United Kingdom and a wide array of other places all over the world.
So what’s working against it then? For starters, we do wish that Netflix did a better job promoting it, especially since we do feel like there is probably a large contingent of people all over the world who may not even know that the series is on the air right now. Beyond that, we do think that there is another issue going on here in that Netflix has shown much more of a proclivity towards canceling shows than they have in the past. They have already ended such shows as Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and American Vandal, and these shows likely had a larger promotional campaign behind them at least in America. It’s rather hard to really know precisely what the streaming service is going to do with some of their shows at this point.
How to help The Last Kingdom
As we explain in the video below (if you like this, be sure to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube), the best thing that you can do is watch the season without too much of a wait. Beyond just that, another thing we’d recommend is for everyone to also watch it the whole way through. Netflix wants to see that there is genuine buzz around their shows, and they also want to hope that viewers will be back to watch again in the future. Clearly, they were happy enough with the performance of the first two seasons to turn this into a Netflix exclusive. We just have to wait and see if that sticks around now.
