Ray Donovan season 6 episode 5 preview: Ray, Sam get on track
Due in part to some external problems involving Ray’s family (including some that he especially does not want to be dealing with), our title character was somewhat preoccupied tonight. Because of that, he didn’t get to progress things all that much with Sam Winslow and the quest to get Anita elected. (We don’t think that Sam is all that thrilled with having to distract herself with a ransom.)
Below, CarterMatt has the full Ray Donovan season 6 episode 5 synopsis with some more news when it comes to what lies ahead:
Hoping to make up for lost time, Ray plans a day with Conor in New York before he ships out overseas with the Marines. Sam and Ray put together a fix to give Anita a bump in popularity. Sam tries to strike a deal with Mayor Ferrati. Mickey devises a radical plan to recoup his losses. Bunchy asks Terry for a favor.
What could Sam and Ray actually do in order to help Anita? There are a number of tried-and-true political strategies that they could use, but we do think at this point optimism could carry the day. This is not something we’re getting a lot of in today’s climate and we do think, as a result of this, that said positive energy can actually yield some fairly-fantastic results. It just comes down to positioning.
As to what else is going to be happening, let’s be clear here that we are nervous about Mickey … mostly because when one plan doesn’t work out, he often goes to another that is even more reckless and crazy. This is where we could be going with him and while there may be some serious merits to this from an entertainment standpoint, there is also a definite reason for concern.
Perhaps the best part of things entering this episode, though, is still the fact that we haven’t even reached the halfway point of the season just yet. Therefore, there are still so many different directions that this narrative could twist and turn and we’re certainly curious to find out what some of those could end up being here. Let’s just cross our fingers and hope that there are twists that make sense, and also twists that help to push this character forward as opposed to continuing to stick him deep within a part of his past.
Also, is it too much to ask for higher ratings? That’s something that has been somewhat of a shock moving into this season, even though we do recognize that there are some other people watching via the app in advance of it airing.
