Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6: How will Chelsea Peretti’s Gina leave?

Moving into Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6, there is one big thing that we know is coming … even if our hearts aren’t adequately prepared for it just yet. We’re speaking here about the impending exit of Chelsea Peretti and her character of Gina, which wasn’t even confirmed until well after the show was revived by NBC for a season 6. She’s been a dynamo with this series almost from the very beginning — a constant source of one-liners and sarcasm. She, in some ways, keeps the Nine-Nine on her toes by her inaction more so than her action.

The next order of business, now that we know that this character is departing, is of course trying to figure out how it is happening. Will Gina’s departure be dramatic, as opposed to something a little more emotional or almost under-the-radar? Well, for better for worse, her exit will be… Gina. Take that for however you want. It seems as though it’s going to be appropriate for this character and the journey that we’ve had a chance to see her be on since the beginning.

Speaking via TVLine, here is some of what star Melissa Fumero (Amy) had to say about watching

“It’s f–king epic … It’s such a great Gina episode.. Her grand finale is with Amy and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz), as it should be. She has stuff with everybody, but they paired her with us [at the end] and we had so much fun shooting that last week. It was bittersweet and sad and we definitely cried, [but they were] happy tears.”

Of course, Gina’s exit also does not have to be permanent — there are still many different ways that Peretti and the producers could find a way to bring her back into the show again. Given that this character already surviving being hit by a bus, it feels like she’s going to be hard to kill off. Is Gina invulnerable? We may as well consider her that for now. The best thing about this show is its sense of community; it’s almost like a family that way! Sometimes, relatives move away to start a new chapter of their lives, but every now and then they do return for some special occasions. Maybe that’s going to be the sort of thing that also happens here.

One way or another, we’ll see some of what happens with Gina after Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns to the air with new episodes next month.
