Ray Donovan season 6 episode 4 preview: Can Ray save Jay White?
At the end of tonight’s episode, we found out that Mickey had infiltrated a set and found a way to kidnap movie star Jay White — basically, he made a big move in order to get his son’s attention and also collect a rather-hefty amount of coin for himself. With the ties that Ray has to Sam Winslow, he basically has to get involved … even if dealing with his father is basically the last thing that he would ever want to do. This is a guy who brings nothing good and constant pain. Now that he is out of prison, we think that Mickey may be scratching an itch here to make up for a heck of a lot of lost time.
Want some other news as to what’s coming up? Then take a look at the full Ray Donovan season 6 episode 4 synopsis that CarterMatt has you below:
Mickey kidnaps movie star Jay White, and Ray has to get 3 million dollars from Sam Winslow to get Jay back in one piece. Mickey and Bunchy plot a future for themselves. Mac finds himself backed into a corner as Internal Affairs comes after him. Terry steps into the ring for the first time in twenty years. Smitty has to confront the secrets of his past and ends up calling on his future father-in-law for help.
While it’s not mentioned here, we certainly don’t think that the Mayoral storyline is going away in the near future — especially since Ray seems to be getting family involved in it to a certain degree. We do actually like that particular focus for the show now, mostly because political issues are so present in society. Beyond just that, how much more do we really need to put the focus on Mickey? It feels like we’re at a tipping point with the guy. Nothing that he does really surprises us anymore and there have been so many father / son issues unlocked and dealt with already. How much more really is there?
Outside of the story of Ray Donovan, can we go ahead and say that what we really want is the ratings to turn around? After all, the live numbers are down pretty dramatically from season 5. We know that it’s available early to subscribers and that live ratings don’t matter as much to premium cable networks, but it would be nice to see the tables turn. We are hoping that with Liev Schreiber’s recently SNL appearance that maybe it will re-infuse viewers to dive back into the program.
