Let’s kick things off here by saying goodbye to … Misunderstood and losing them was terrible to say the least. These guys were genuinely good and certainly didn’t deserve this sort of exit so early on in the live shows. This is another reminder of why this elimination format is terrible where one act is sent home without any sort of proper opportunity to save themselves. Was their performance last night perfect? No, but this felt like a death knell to the groups as a whole given that Acacia and Aaliyah have been in danger before … and could be again at the end of the night.
Now, let’s get to the second part of the episode…
Giovanni Spano vs. Acacia & Aaliyah
This was a tad more predictable, as Giovanni performed at the start of the episode last night and had a middling performance; meanwhile, Acacia and Aaliyah have been in danger in the past.
Did either one of them deliver a show-stopping performance? We wouldn’t necessarily say that, but Giovanni is clearly the more complete package as it is right now. Acacia & Aaliyah have a higher upside, but they are significantly younger and still have a lot of time to grow as artists.
The decision
This was a tough one given that both of these acts have been solid, if not spectacular, throughout the season. We don’t think that Gio really deserved to go home, but this is the problem — if the girls go home, Robbie / Nile won’t have any people on his team at all. Does The X Factor really want to eradicate all of one team at one time? Well, apparently not. Simon decided to send Gio home, which means that Acacia & Aaliyah stick around for one more week … at least. We’ll see what comes after that.
