Bull season 3 episode 7 review: The case of Tally North (and Bull’s past)

Bull season 3 episode 1

While Dr. Jason Bull has over the years helped out many a challenging client, what we saw tonight on Bull season 3 episode 7 was a little bit different.

So who was he representing tonight? Think along the lines as someone in Tally North who he previously counseled when he was a psychiatrist, someone who may have unfortunately fallen through the cracks. She was accused of committing murder of her own brother and he had to find a way to prove that she wasn’t guilty. The accusation alone was painful — not just to her, but to Bull. He had to live with the idea that he may have been able to help her if he was still offering her help.

Luckily, the good news is that Tally wasn’t actually responsible for what happened, but she also did not have a sense of normalcy in her life. She was still struggling, and the complications from her mental-health history made it rather difficult for her to stand trial. This is where the TAC came in, having to thread the needle, prove that she didn’t do this, and also point the needle towards someone else. Eventually, they were able to do this, as Tally was just another innocent victim in all of this. She may not have been able to process emotion in much of the same way that we saw from other people within this episode, but at the end of the hour, the team at least did their job once more.

To go along with that, Bull is realizing that he does still help people — it’s just in a different way. He has nothing to be sad about in terms of the career and the work he is doing now — especially when it comes to helping people like Tally North who certainly does need her support dearly.

CarterMatt Verdict

As a whole, Bull season 3 episode 7 delivered what proved itself to be an emotional case that traced back to Bull’s past; yet, along the way it also better justified what he is doing in the present. While it would have been nice to have some more meaningful stories within this episode that lasted beyond just the moment, there’s still no doubt in our mind that this was a solid entry into season 3 overall.
