So what’s the focus of this one? Well, let’s just say that it revolves around whether or not the Baxters could welcome an exchange student into their home. Vanessa arrives back home after a fundraiser and makes it pretty clear to Mike, despite his protests, that she was to bring in Jen, a student from Hong Kong, into their home from a semester. This is what the organization needs more so than just money; these people need an opportunity to continue their education. Vanessa wants to give Jen an opportunity, and she basically overrules everything that Mike says in opposition to the idea. She also makes it clear that he has to be on his best behavior and cannot bring any of his politics into the conversation.
In the end, we think that Mike is going to come around when he actually sees Jen and starts to have a discussing with her. He’s someone who often tends to be stubborn and set in his ways, but eventually he does have a tendency to come around and accept people. That’s probably what is going to happen here and, if nothing else, it’s a chance to see how someone new reacts to the Mike character. A show like Last Man Standing often needs to find new ways to mix things up and this feels like an interesting opportunity to do just that. Regardless of what transpires in this episode, it feels fair to say that Friday is probably not the last time that we’re going to be seeing this Jen character on the show.
