The most notable headline here comes via Midnight, Texas, which was premiering last night and ended up posting as a whole a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That is down pretty dramatically from the season 1 premiere, though it did keep the entirety of the lead-in from Blindspot, which posted a similar rating. While we think that Midnight, Texas will benefit heavily from DVR viewing after the fact, will a 0.4 rating really be enough to get an NBC show renewed in-season? That’s something that we’re going to have to watch throughout the season.
Basically, the World Series did some damage (Red Sox pun intended) against almost all of the primetime lineup, as just about every show was down — Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods, and MacGyver all notched their lowest ratings of the season. None of them are in a troublesome spot, given that they all seemingly just fell victim to the limited numbers of non-baseball viewers who were around last night. Remember, this is also the last Friday before Halloween and we’re at a time when some in the north are enjoying their last bit of time before things start to cool down dramatically for the winter.
If there is some good news to hand down for one series, it is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which managed to top more than 400,000 viewers for the first time all season. Granted, it’s in its final season so there’s not really anything that matters here purely from a numbers point of view. On bad ratings like this, sometimes you have to scramble to find your little nugget of gold.
