Vikings star Katheryn Winnick directing on new project Wu Assassins

Katheryn Winnick

Fresh off her time directing on Vikings earlier this year, it looks as though Katheryn Winnick is taking her talents her latest project.

In a new post on Instagram (see below), Winnick confirmed that she will be helming an episode of her upcoming Netflix series Wu Assassins, which she is also starring in. For those who haven’t heard too much about the new series just yet, take a look at the official series logline:

“Set in San Francisco’s Chinatown, [Wu Assassins] follows Kai Jin, who becomes the latest and last Wu Assassin, chosen to round up the powers of an ancient triad and restore balance once again.”

This is a series that will be looking to bring a lot of action and intrigue to the aforementioned streaming provider, and Winnick’s experience with this sort of subject matter on Vikings may make her a more-than-suitable director here.

This news about Katheryn directing is certainly coming at a time when her name could be increasingly in the headlines. After all, season 5 of Vikings is returning to History next month, and all signs point to it being a critical installment for her character of Lagertha (pictured above). We anticipate some great performances from her there; the episode of Vikings Winnick directed is a part of the upcoming sixth season, which we imagine will air at some point in 2019. However, nothing is confirmed as of yet.

As for Wu Assassins, we’re anticipating that it could launch on Netflix next year — the irony here is that depending on the specific premiere dates, we could end up seeing her directorial debuts on both shows at around the same time, despite one filming much earlier than the other.
