This new Vikings season 5 – Ivar poster may freak you out

We’ve gotten a chance to check out the new Vikings season 5 poster today featuring Ivar the Boneless, and there is really just one word to describe it: Freaky. This seems like the perfect poster for Halloween, as it gives you a sense as to some of the chaos that is likely going to be coming down the road for this character. He has no problem causing bloodshed, and apparently, he also has no problem putting blood across his face.

Vikings season 5 is returning to History on November 28, and the biggest challenge we imagine for History is simply one of making the super-long wait for the series worth it. That means, first and foremost, establishing some epic showdowns for some of these characters and paying off the entire journey that we’ve been on with people like Ivar for some time. By no means is he a particularly likable character, but the reality here is that he was never meant to be that. This is a guy designed more to make your hair stand on it; he’s meant to inspire fear in his opponents.

Is Ivar going to keep his reign going moving into season 6? That seems likely at the moment, though there are plenty of opportunities for things to change moving forward. We will see the show play with time more and beyond that, there are some new players entering the world in the back half of the season. Take, for example, Rollo — Clive Standen will be back on the series after a significant stretch of time away.

Beyond just Ivar, remember that moving forward Lagertha is going to be in an interesting spot. She’s still alive, but perhaps most interestingly, she’s in a spot where she doesn’t feel like she really has all that much to lose anymore. It’s a very different side to her character.
