Gotham season 5 spoilers: A Bane storyline remix & a flash-forward

Gotham

Coming out of the Gotham season 5 promotional events at New York Comic-Con, there are a couple of odds & ends worth noting. The most notable one here is tied to Shane West’s character of Bane.

Given that Gotham itself is not going to be giving you much of the story from the Batman timeline itself, the writers are very much intent on remixing as many different familiar stories as possible. That includes getting a chance to see Bane break someone’s back on this show … even if it’s not Bruce. Instead, you can expect to see Bane commit the act against Alfred on the show, which means that Bruce’s uber-tough butler is going to be on the road to recovery following what happens to him here. The back-breaking is iconic to the comic version of this character, so we cannot exactly say that we’re shocked that the producers would want to include it in some shape or form on the series.

Meanwhile, there is one other notable thing to discuss here when it comes to the series finale, as we are going to see the story move its way into the future. How much so? Let’s just say that you’ll have a chance to see the timeline jump forward many years so that you can properly see Bruce Wayne prepare to actually become Batman. What we like about this is that Gotham isn’t trying to change history, and simply create a teenage Batman at the end of the show just because that is the most convenient thing for them to do. Beyond just that, moving the story forward like this would not negate the possibility that there could be more Gotham stories told in the future. While all signs suggest that season 5 is the end, you never know precisely what’s going to be coming in the future! It’s best to keep your options open…
