Gotham season 5 spoilers: Bane confirmed; Hugo Strange, Szasz returning
While at the convention today, it was confirmed that Shane West’s character of Eduardo Dorrance is actually going to be the series’ version of Bane and not King Snake, as had been speculated online. Clearly, this is the show wanting to have a fully-formed version of the comic-book character in the final season given that Bane is one of the only major adversaries that they haven’t included yet in some shape or form.
There were a number of other big announcements at the convention in terms of returning villains — we know now that the Mad Hatter is going to be returning, and the same goes for Scarecrow, Hugo Strange, and Victor Szasz. These are all popular recurring villains we’ve seen over time, but there was never any confirmation they would be back for another go.
The most important bit of news to come out of the convention is likely just that Batman himself will be making an appearance, at least in some form, by the end of the series. This feels like one of those things where Bruce Wayne will put on the cowl and a modified version of the costume right before the credits roll.
Overall, it feels like Gotham is mostly going to set out at this point to deliver as many great villains as it possibly can within a short period of time, while also still establish a larger narrative around them. This is a season that has four seasons of material to celebrate, and beyond just that, of course wants to find a way to give back to the fans. The series has had a rather-tumultuous run over the years, and it was certainly never secure for a long time that it would make it this far in the first place.
