NCIS: Los Angeles star Eric Christian Olsen signs producing deal

NCIS: Los Angeles star Eric Christian Olsen is officially sticking with the CBS show after his character Marty Deeks survived the premiere. Beyond that, he’s also expanding his role at the studio at large.

As first reported by Deadline, Olsen has officially signed a multi-year production pact with CBS TV Studios to help develop and sell products alongside his Cloud Nine Productions banner. As a matter of fact, Olsen has already sold two different potential series to the network.

Nurses – This is a medical drama and a remake of a popular series in Finland, which revolved around four highly-skilled trauma center nurses who had to figure out how to handle everything that flies at them on a constant basis. The pilot script is said to be written by Cathrun Humphris of Colony and NCIS: New Orleans.

Life Lessons – Based on part on a Canadian digital series, this is a show (written by Mark Gross) about a guy who finds some sort of meaning to his life via a class of first-graders. This will be a multi-camera comedy, the sort of thing that you don’t necessarily see too much of these days. (Olsen is joined by Kate Schumaecker as an executive producer on both projects.)

What these shows provide for Olsen is a chance to keep doing work as Deeks while also expanding into some other creative arenas. He is far from the first CBS actor to dabble heavily into producing, as Michael Weatherly also has a production deal with the studio alongside Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki. All are heavy into development, and there are actors on other series that operate in a similar way — think Ellen Pompeo from Grey’s Anatomy, who has been working as a producer for some time to go along with some of her work as Meredith Grey.
