Station 19 season 2 premiere ratings solid; Murphy Brown keeps most of premiere audience
The first Station 19 season 2 premiere ratings are in via ABC, and overall, it does feel like the network has a lot to be happy with.
The Grey’s Anatomy spin-off managed to generate in its first outing of the fall a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which puts it fairly close to where the show started off its first season. This is enough to have us reasonably hopeful for its future, which is a good thing given that the network needs to revamp its TGIT lineup with Scandal no longer a part of it. (The big surprise of the night was seeing How to Get Away with Murder actually keep most of its premiere audience, rare for premieres, and even improve slightly in viewers.)
Of course, at the moment our main point of curiosity here comes via new shows, and that’s what we are drifting some of our focus to at this particular moment in time.
Murphy Brown – The CBS revival kept most of audience from the premiere, finishing with a 1.0 for an episode that featured the title character squaring off against Sarah Huckabee Sanders (or at least the show’s presented version of her). For everyone feeling like this show is too liberal now, wasn’t it always liberal? We’re not really surprised about anything within the content here.
I Feel Bad – Despite all of the buzz leading up to the start of the season, the comedy generated just a 0.7 rating in the demo last night, which certainly doesn’t make us feel good about its future. It’s had a lot of opportunities to date, but clearly viewers are not responding en masse the same way that many executives did when they had an opportunity to check out the series for the first time.
I Feel Bad is also creating more challenges for Law & Order: SVU, which ended up finishing with a 1.0 rating in its timeslot. It’s going to be fine since there are so many different avenues viewers have to watch it.
