The Hills: New Beginnings adds Mischa Barton, more to roster
MTV announced today that the former star of The OC is joining Kaitlynn Carter, Jennifer Delgado and Ashley Wahler as new cast members for the upcoming revival. They join such original The Hills notables as Audrina Patridge, Brody Jenner, Heidi and Spencer Pratt, Frankie Delgado, Jason Wahler, Justin “Bobby” Brescia, Stephanie Pratt and Whitney Port. The original version of The Hills was a nationwide sensation on MTV that delivered strong ratings and launched many careers — including Lauren Conrad, who is not joining the new series. The idea seems to be to combine some of what worked for the original Hills, but also offering up something new and different. We imagine this existing in the same was as Jersey Shore Family Vacation; you’ll get reminders of the past but also evidence that things are going to be different in the present.

Is this new version of The Hills really going to work? It’s something that the entire CarterMatt team is super curious about, given the original’s rampant popularity and what some of the cast members have been up to since. It’s a very different world now than we saw in the original show, one where social media is rampant and there are other shows like this. Yet, this is the OG, and with that comes a good bit of credibility. We just have to see if the stories are just as notable as they once were, or if we’re a little more numb to Hollywood and the lifestyle in 2018.
We anticipate The Hills: New Beginnings premiering at some point in 2019.
