Chelsea Peretti leaving Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6 as series regular
In a new post on Twitter, the actress announced that she is saying farewell to the fantastic role of Gina, who she has played since the beginning of the series. She’s long been a fantastic part of the team as the often-apathetic, extremely-sarcastic administrative assistant for the squad. She’s had more memorable moments that we can possibly count here, but they will likely live on forever in gif form … and also probably a billion or so YouTube videos. (Would Gina love nothing more than being a social-media star?)

What is important to note here about Peretti’s message is that she is not ruling out future appearances, which is great in that it allows the series the chance to still include her whenever she wants to come back. The series will never be the same, but let’s hope that the writers view this as a challenge in order to give us another character who is wonderful but also very different from any other that we’ve seen so far. We don’t want Brooklyn Nine-Nine to just hire some other administrative assistant who copies the same traits that Gina has — but we also do think that the show is a heck of a lot smarter than that.
There is no new episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine premiering this fall; you’re going to be waiting until the new year to see what happens with Gina’s exit — plus Terry, Jake, Amy, and the rest of the squad. Nine-Nine forever — which Gina will be no matter if she is on the show or not.
