Absentia renewed for season 2 by Amazon; check out new characters
Some of the new cast members for the upcoming season include Matthew Le Nevez as Cal Isaac, a former Navy SEAL who, despite what he’s been through, is surprisingly upbeat. It turns out that he could be a friend-of-sorts to Emily Byrne (Stana Katic) as she looks to conquer some of her demons moving into season 2. This is going to be a story of vast conspiracy, one where she uncovers something so much deeper than her own personal history. There are still many questions out there, but clearly Amazon and Sony are cagey about too many details coming out too early. They don’t want to spoil it!

As for some other casting, The Night Manager alum Natasha Little will be playing Special Agent Julianne Gunnarsen, an FBI Profiler who is very good at what she does (but also a hard person to read). She arrives at the Boston field office of the FBI after a deadly terrorist attack. If nothing else, we can take her as a good foil for some of the other characters who are there — which should include Emily after everything that happened in the first season.
Given the start of season 2 filming, our hope is that the latest ten episodes will be completed at some point early next year, which could make a premiere date coming up in the spring or summer possible. Remember, though, that Sony may scale out the launch dates depending on the territory. After all, many of the AXN networks that house Absentia all over the world roll out the show via weekly installments, as opposed to Amazon, which chooses to put all of the episodes online at the same time. This is a show built for an international audience, and that’s in part what is exciting about it having such a diverse and international cast.
