American Horror Story: Apocalypse: Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott returning

Sarah Paulson

The moment that it was revealed that American Horror Story: Apocalypse would be a crossover of Murder House and Coven, it was immediately clear that everyone wanted Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott back. The two actors were at the center of Murder House and while they haven’t been franchise mainstays since, it’s clear that they are still important to the series’ legacy. Also, they’re both great performers and both have worked with executive producer Ryan Murphy since. (Britton was previously a part of the first season of 9-1-1 on Fox, though she seems to now be moving on.)

According to a report from TheWrap, Britton and McDermott are officially going to be a part of Apocalypse (the eighth season of the show) in some capacity, though it is not entirely clear just yet if they are going to be playing Vivien and Ben Harmon, their characters from the first season. That’s just the easy assumption to make right now based on the information that we’ve got at the moment — plus, that is what most fans want.

What’s probably the most impressive (and also terrifying) is how many cast members and performers this upcoming season has brought back given that you also have Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Taissa Farmiga, Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sidibe, Jessica Lange (in a brief appearance), Kathy Bates, Cody Fern, Frances Conroy, and a number of other performers all stopping by for this season in some capacity. It’s a pretty enormous cast and we can only imagine just how challenging it’s going to be to cram every single person in. Sometimes, we do think that American Horror Story tries to put in too much content over a short period of time, and the best seasons are the ones that are a little bit simpler. We’ll see what happens here.
