Blindspot, Agents of SHIELD alum Luke Mitchell joins CBS’ The Code
Per a new report coming in via Deadline, the former Blindspot and Agents of SHIELD star is joining the drama, taking on a role originally played by Dave Annable. The part is Captain John “Abe” Abraham, a “driven prosecutor” and Marine who relishes in the opportunity to serve his country. He is a smart, passionate guy, and that’s a good thing given that all of the characters on this show have a wide array of challenges. Basically, all of the attorneys within this world have to be prosecutors, defense lawyers, and investigators as they resolve tough challenges related to the military. This series is going to draw some pretty-clear comparisons to JAG, but that’s more than with with us given that JAG was one of the best series on the air during the time in which it was out there. It’s also led to the NCIS franchise, which is one of the biggest that is now out there on TV.
With Mitchell joining The Code, the biggest thing that we’re really hoping for is that this show will offer up a chance for Mitchell to really get to build a character from the ground up, especially since the last two shows that he’s been a part of have featured him joining an ensemble that was at least a year in progress. Also, his characters have a tendency to get killed off on a regular basis — he’s not on a Sean Bean level just yet, but we imagine that this is a trend he would like to see turned around at some point.
There’s no specific premiere date for The Code just yet, but we imagine that one will be here a little bit later this year.
