The Last Kingdom season 3: How can Netflix drive more attention to it?

The Last Kingdom

Moving into The Last Kingdom season 3, there are a few different things that we know. For starters, we know that we’re going to get an exciting season, and we also know that there will be a fantastic sense of scope.

Yet, at the same time we also know that this is a show that isn’t getting anywhere near the right amount of attention, especially in America. While it may not have the most well-known cast out there or a story that every American viewer is aware of, we do think that it brings a number of big things to the table that just about every single American viewer can respond to on some level.

For starters, let’s have a discussion here about the show’s action — it brings a lot of that to the table, and it feels like if Netflix opts to promote the series in movie theaters or even around other action-heavy shows like The Walking Dead or Vikings, that could be a chance to bring in some more eyeballs. Viewers crave action, and they also crave the sort of raw, unfiltered action that comes via period pieces. These sort of battles are epic since they’re the sort you don’t often see in modern-set series anymore.

Beyond just this, we also think that a larger social-media push would be welcome, whether it is cross-promoting the series alongside some of Netflix’s other shows, sponsoring tweets, or figuring out some sort of way to get the word out there more. While we’re certain that The Last Kingdom will get more of its due attention overseas, we want to get more people aware of it in the US. Getting it good placement on Netflix, especially since so many Americans have it, will go a long way with that.

In the end, though, a certain degree of the burden does fall on us in the American media to make sure that there are some viewers out there who end up becoming aware of the series and are interested in watching it and checking it out. It can at times be rather difficult to remember to cover every series out there in this peak TV era where there are ones around every corner, but we hope that there is a large media footprint as we get closer to the launch date this fall. That will help to make the series more of the mainstream hit that it deserves to be — and, beyond that, potentially help to get us closer to a season 4.
