Last Man Standing season 7 will reportedly kill off recurring character
In the case of the other departure we have to report on today, let’s just say that it’s a little different and will impact the Baxter family in a head-on way. One of the things that was somewhat buried in the midst of all of the other headlines at the TCA Summer Press Tour yesterday was that (per Variety) the series is planning to kill off Robert Forster’s character of Bud Baxter, Mike’s father. This will allow a sense of mortality and grief to flow through many of the stories coming up in season 7.
We imagine that the reaction to this news is going to be mixed for those who missed it yesterday, largely because Forster is a pretty fantastic actor (his Breaking Bad episode is a personal favorite) and also that there are a lot of viewers out there who love the Bud character. Do we understand it? Sure, given that death is a part of life and this is the sort of thing that will help Last Man Standing present a reflection of that. Of course, at the same time there are also a number of people who are probably looking to the show as somewhat of an escape from their everyday sorrows.
While we are sure there are going to be a number of sad moments that come along with this story, we don’t think that it is going to shift the tone of Last Man Standing too much at all. This is a show that has already figured out what it’s tone is going to be and with that, we don’t see them wanting to change it all that much.
