Absentia season 2: Amazon misses golden opportunity to announce renewal
Yet, we imagine that for some viewers in America, this excitement is mixed with a little bit of frustration. Amazon held its annual panel at the TCA Summer Press Tour on Saturday and as a result of that, we hoped that there would be a season 2 renewal confirmed. After all, there were so many other subjects discussed there whether it be a Lord of the Rings series, the upcoming Matthew Weiner series The Romanoffs, or bringing on board Julia Roberts for a major TV projects. There were a lot of big things discussed, but unfortunately, Absentia and a second season were not officially confirmed.
What’s going on here? For the time being, we’re still asserting that there isn’t all that much to worry about. With production moving forward, it’s fair to say that a second season will eventually debut in America. It would just be nice to see some sort of announcement or attention be paid to the series stateside.
In addition to the Amazon airings, we do wish that there would be some sort of stateside airing of the series in the future, mostly because of the fact that there are so many more viewers who can discover the show that way. Granted, it would have to be on a cable network like FX or TNT, since otherwise you’re going to have to censor or edit the show down a little bit. (This is just wishful thinking on their part, and not something that we explicitly think is going to happen.)
Hopefully, Amazon will officially announce season 2 of Absentia right around the time that it starts filming.

I somewhat think that because Absentia wasn’t a big breakout hit, necessarily, I.e. The Marvelous Mrs. Maxes, Sneaky Pete. Nor did Absentia have a really, really big name attached to it, Stana is star, with fans all over the globe, She is an incredibly underrated actress who seriously deserves recognition for her part in the series, but she isn’t say Julia Roberts, Billy Bob Thorton, or even John Krasinki, also a great actor.
It didn’t get that big draw from viewers that I think Amazon was hoping for. Nevertheless, they have somewhat promoted it, but they could definitely try to put out tv commercial promo spots, billboards and social media platforms to further promote the show, because it does seem to have a steady audience. And I really would like to see season 2.

Good review but one point, just to be fair: Absentia was in the top 10 Amazon Prime shows. I think it would be fair to say it did better than expected on Amazon and would have done even better if it received anywhere near the promotion Sneaky Pete did. Hope you agree!

I don’t understand why this is! Absentia did great and had fantastic ratings on Amazon! It was a fantastic film/tv series, erased any doubt about Stana Katic’s acting ability (which there shouldn’t have been any), and the vast majority of viewers LOVED the series! In case no one noticed, I did!
It would be stupid not to show season 2 and I agree with Carter Matt that a cable channel would be preferable.
Perhaps we fans can make this possible?
Thanks Carter Matt for all your work bringing Absentia news to us! ?
