Is Supergirl season 4 episode 3 giving you a Superman fakeout?

Hoechlin

Is there potential for a Tyler Hoechlin – Superman appearance moving into Supergirl season 4 episode 3? On some level, the show wants you to think so.

According to a report from SpoilerTV, the title for season 4 episode 3 is “Man of Steel.” That’s an obvious reference to Superman himself, but it really feels at this point too obvious. (We also doubt it’s a reference to Nate Heywood on Legends of Tomorrow, even if that would be appropriate on some level.) This title is mostly a way to drum up some attention about this episode, but then potentially divert it in some way. There is going to be a meaning here, but it may not be what you think given that, at least for now, there is no word on a Superman appearance in this episode.

In many ways, it feels like Superman is not something that Supergirl plans on revisiting just because it’s hard to really establish new dimensions with him turning up. Think about things in this sense: We haven’t seen Clark Kent turn up enough for there to be some sort of emotional depth to the relationship between him and Kara. Their relationship is kind of like what it is with most people and their cousins: You see each other every now and then but you don’t think of calling them up and asking them to hang out. We think in part that the reason he showed up in the first place was to get the series some attention after its move over to The CW. There’s also a Wally West factor here in that he’s basically got the same powers as Kara, and if you throw the two together it’s hard to really think about a villain who will stand up to them both.

Do we think, nonetheless, that Hoechlin will return by the end of the series? Probably, but it doesn’t seem to be coming in the near future.
