Power season 5 episode 5 spoilers: Kendrick Lamar to appear
Starz has confirmed that on Sunday’s new episode “Happy Birthday,” Lamar is going to be making an appearance in at least one scene alongside star/executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. There’s no indication as to whether or not he will be playing himself or a separate character on the series, but this is a fun appearance to look forward to.
So why announce this in advance, as opposed to it just being a surprise? More than likely, Starz does want to use the announcement in order to leverage some more interest in their show, which is already one of their top-rated shows. Lamar is a fan of the show, and with that we feel like there had to be a lot of enthusiasm for him to make an appearance here.
In a statement, executive producer Mark Canton had the following to say:
“Kendrick is a once in a generation talent and [executive producer Courtney A. Kemp], 50 and I felt it would be exciting to create a role for him in ‘Power.’ Everyone involved is thrilled to have him join the family”
The suggestion that a role was created for him tells us that Kendrick won’t be playing himself on the show, but you never know. We just hope that it’s a scene that lasts longer than a minute or so, that way it feels like he’s really having an impact on the story rather than it just being an obvious way for the show to get attention.
