Outlander hiatus: Other perfect TV guest roles for John Bell

In looking beyond Outlander for the upcoming months, what other TV roles could be perfect for John Bell? That’s the focus of today’s article!

Over the past few weeks, we’ve taken a look at this subject already for actors like Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin. (Just visit the archive page to check some of those out.) Moving the focus over to Bell next just seems like the logical next step, largely because he has done such a tremendous job in his handful of episodes to date and is one of the show’s best up-and-comers. During this hiatus, we like to think that he could also do a number of different things.

The purpose of this article is to think up some ideal TV roles for Bell. We’re not so much trying to think in terms of roles that would make sense of ones that are feasible in terms of production schedules and the like.

Stranger Things – To us, we think John has the potential to take on some sort of super-creepy role in the show’s small-town setting — Bell has that ability to do lighter material with ease, but also still play into something darker and more menacing. From our vantage point, he’s perfect for the Stranger Things universe.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger – Maybe he is a confidante-turned-adversary of Tandy and Tyrone’s in season 3. With this show’s youthful energy Bell would be a great fit; though, like with Stranger Things, there’s potential to do a lot of super-dark stuff here.

Blue Bloods – If you want to see him on a more serious show, why not find a way to bring him on as an immigrant boyfriend of Nicky’s? This would be a good way for Blue Bloods to touch on immigration in 2018 while giving Bell a platform on one of the most-watched network shows out there.

Santa Clarita Diet – Just in case John wants to do something completely crazy, why not throw him on here as a new classmate of Abby’s who stumbles upon a few clues that something is wrong with her family. Would the Hammonds really do something drastic to silence someone who is effectively still a kid?

The Sinner – Given that Outlander is one of TV’s most-underrated shows, why not give Bell a role on another one? We could see him having a small-but-meaty role in an episode or two of USA’s series as a valuable witness with a tormented past, or someone who has valuable testimony but complications that may make him hard to be believed.
