Sweetbitter renewed for season 2 by Starz
“Season one gave audiences a taste of the characters and backstory of an upscale New York restaurant, leaving them wanting more – which we will deliver with a second helping of ‘Sweetbitter’. The immersion of the audience into the world in and around the restaurant will deepen as the series looks further into the complexities of Tess’ awakening and the lives of her new friends and colleagues in the second season.”
For those who haven’t seen the series, it follows Tess, who shortly after arriving in New York City, lands a job at a celebrated downtown restaurant. Swiftly introduced to the world of drugs, drinking, love, lust, dive bars and fine dining, she learns to navigate the chaotically alluring, yet punishing life she has stumbled upon. It takes an interesting spin on the old “a girl comes from the midwest/middle of the country story to find a better life” story because instead of the character wanting to be a star, Tess is simply just wanting to be where the excitement is. For that, we definitely would tell everyone to check this one out.
It’s clear Starz is starting to be a force to be reckoned with as fans are starting to really support their shows, thanks to fan-favorite series, Outlander, which got many to begin signing up for the cable network. Overall, Sweetbitter has a lot more stories to tell and fans should be excited. While there is no news yet as to when filming will begin, we will let fans knows as soon as we hear something.
Based on the national bestselling novel of the same name by Stephanie Danler, season one of “Sweetbitter” stars Ella Purnell as “Tess,” alongside Tom Sturridge (“The Hollow Crown”), Caitlin FitzGerald (“Masters of Sex”), Evan Jonigkeit (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Eden Epstein (“In Between Men”), Jasmine Mathews(“Blue Bloods”), Daniyar (“Claws”) and Paul Sparks (“The Girlfriend Experience”). Danler serves as creator, executive producer and writer on the series. Stuart Zicherman (“The Americans”) serves as showrunner and executive producer along with Plan B.
