2018 Emmys: Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Kristen Bell, Timothy Olyphant top reader comedy picks
CarterMatt Readers have spoken, at least when it comes to who they want to see nominated at the 2018 Emmy Awards on Thursday.
Ever since early June, readers have been voting extensively on a number of different categories in terms of who they want to see nominated. The results are in for the comedy categories this year, and while we only conducted polls on a select few categories this time around, we did get a good sense of what our readers liked this year: Smart, engaging, and funny comedies with continuous stories that make you want to watch multiple episodes in rapid succession.
Let’s break some of these down a little bit further now…
Comedy Series – Maybe it was an excellent fifth season, or maybe it was the unification of the fans around a campaign to save the show. Either way, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was the chosen show by fans in this category, at least at CarterMatt, for the first time this year. Nine-Nine!
Actor, Comedy Series – Timothy Olyphant was both wonderful and absurd in his role on Santa Clarita Diet and with that, we’re very pleased to see him get some love here. He’s probably an underdog for a nomination this year, but we’re not sure anyone can play this role with the same amount of physical commitment and manic energy that he did.
Actress, Comedy Series – This year, viewers decided that the Emmys would be a good place for Kristen Bell to be. The actress for The Good Place took home the vast majority of the votes this year and for good reason — season 2 was fantastic, and she had a lot of wonderful things to do during it.
Congratulations to some of our poll winners! Whether or not these influence actual Emmy nominations tomorrow remain to be seen, but the messages we’ve got as a result of them this year is loud and clear.
