On Becoming God in Central Florida: New series by Kirsten Dunst set at YouTube
Kirsten Dunst is returning to television with her new series titled On Becoming God in Central Florida that is set to premiere on YouTube.
According to Deadline, the series is a one-hour dark comedy series that will be produced Dunst and she will also star in it. The series revolves around “Krystal Gill (Dunst), a minimum-wage-earning water park employee who will eventually scheme her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise: the cultish, flag waving, multi-billion dollar pyramid scheme that drove her family to ruin.”
YouTube has won the rights to the series and are very excited to have this show. After the success of their first original series, Cobra Kai, it’s obvious that YouTube is beginning to see themselves as a upcoming worthy competitor to other streaming services. This Dunst-lead series definitely has an interesting and unique concept. It immediately captures our attention and we will be keeping an eye out for its release date.
In addition, the series is being produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures and Sony’s TriStar Television. The series is written by Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky and the pair could not be more excited about the casting of Dunst as she was always their top choice, according to the late Suzanne Patmore-Gibbs in her final interview with Deadline:
“In Krystal Gill, Funke and Lutsky have created a truly delicious, sometimes diabolical female character — a dirt poor, very fierce young woman who is relentless in her pursuit of the American dream inside of an Amway-like company. There is something incredibly compelling, heartbreaking and absurd about both she and the lost souls these multi-level marketing companies prey on, who look to find community, respect and a sense of self in all the wrong places.”
As far as the logistics go, the series is will be produced by Funke, Lutsky, Dunst, Lanthimos, and Esta Spalding, who will also serve as showrunner. Charlie McDowell will direct and Clooney and Heslov will produce through Smokehouse. Sarah Shepard, who has been a big proponent of the project, oversees for Smokehouse.
Overall, we are excited for Dunst’s return to television as well as her new series. We will continue to look out for any new information regarding this series and share it with you as soon as possible.
