Elementary season 6 episode 10 preview: John Noble’s return; a time of mourning

Elementary season 6 episode 10 next week could be one of the most important this season — or at the very least, the most important one since Michael left town. This installment, directed by Lucy Liu, is bringing John Noble back as Morland Holmes for the first time in a while. It’s pretty clear to anyone who watches this show already that he and Sherlock have a strained relationship and we don’t really see that changing all that much at first in this episode. Yet, by the end of the installment, who knows given the circumstances of Morland’s return? Beyond that this isn’t going to be the only appearance of Noble this season; there’s more story coming up in the episode that follows at least, so expect to see something carry on here.

“The Adventure of the Ersatz Sobekneferu” – Sherlock and his father, Morland Holmes (John Noble), attempt to repair their strained relationship upon learning of a death within their family. Also, Holmes and Watson discover a link between their latest case and the world of Egyptian antiquities when they search for a killer who tried to mummify his victim, on ELEMENTARY, Monday, July 2 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Lucy Liu directed the episode.

While the world of Egyptian antiquities doesn’t necessarily seem like the sort of subject matter that is going to reel in a flock of viewers to Elementary, it does feel at the same time super well-suited for a show like this. It very much has that sort of classic Sherlock Holmes feel to it.

Unfortunately, it may be hard to really focus on that given what is bringing the two together: Mycroft’s death. We’re still having a hard time processing that.
